Things that go bump in the road


Jeremiah 17:7-8

“BLESSED is the man (or, woman) who TRUST in the Lord, whose TRUST is the Lord.  They are like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does NOT fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is NOT anxious in the year of drought, for it does NOT cease to bear FRUIT.”


There’s one thing for certain in life…it’s not always going to be a smooth ride to the finish line of your Victory…sometimes there just might be a bump in the road…or, maybe even a detour or two before you get there.  The GREAT news here is…you WILL get there.  How’s that?  Because YOU are a BELIEVER in the Mighty God of Heaven…and TRUST in His heartfelt promises that He WILL help you cross that finish line…and fulfill the incredible plans He designed for you personally.


Jeremiah 29:11

For I know the PLANS I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for WELFARE and NOT for EVIL, to give you a FUTURE and a HOPE.


It’s HOT here in Texas…yet…we have the cooling SHADE of the Almighty…we are very much like that tree that was planted near a running stream…always finding it’s fruit as a bountiful harvest.  And just like that tree and it’s hidden roots…we are rooted with the Spirit of Living Waters.  Sending our reach out to our Savior…always bearing FRUIT…regardless of this “Dog Day” summer.

      Vic keeps me in line. I never seek attention and Tommy Overstreet said years ago I had a “Whole lot of quit in me!” I will not enumerate how many songs, books, articles or movies I’ve written but I will say that I’ve given away more than I’ve published. Newbies are always talking about “dues” they’ve paid when they first start out. Dues are what you realize when it’s all over and done and the Devil comes knocking.   Alcoholism becomes a viable option and beats working. Fancy words like “depression” don’t work because if you’re a writer you quickly realize that depression gives you the best material because nobody wants to hear about sunny days, they just want to make it through the night.   So, you drink yourself into a pit, and somewhere in that pit is a hit, if you’re lucky.   How’d you like a little death to add life to your party? There’s a new kid on the block. Fentanyl.  Back in the day James Brown lamented “King Heroin.” Fentanyl is the new Kool Aid. Jim Jones Kool Aid! Why in the world would anyone wanna invent something like that is beyond me. Hitler could have saved all that money on Zyklon B if He’d had fentanyl! A little dab’ll do ya? Try 1/500 th of a dab!   Now I know you kids out there are thinking I’m just an old “Fuddy Duddy,” but let me educate you. I’ve been in entertainment since 1969. Do the math. From Austin to Nashville, and I have been there, done that. In addition to that I was crushed between two cars in 1970 and had a legal, non-stop source of pain medication for years.
