What Would Jesus Do?

 



Colossians 3:17

And WHATEVER you do, in WORD or DEED, do EVERYTHING in the (Mighty) Name of the Lord, Jesus…giving THANKS to God the Father through Him.


When you were growing up (me in the fifties…YIKES) if your Mother told you NOT to touch those cookies she lovingly place in the infamous “Cookie Jar” setting on that kitchen counter…would you EVER attempt to carefully (and quietly) sneak one out of that jar…with your Mom standing behind you holding that wooden spoon?  What kid would…right?


And what if you were a teenager sitting in your car next to a Police Officer at a Red Light…would you put the pedal to the metal and do a burn out the moment the light turned Green?  Let’s just say if you were driving in the 60’s…or…70’s…it would not end well for you.


So…now you’re all grown-up.  You’re out of town on vacation with your Soul-Mate and children.  There’s a table next to you that has a a group of guys inviting you to the pool to hang out with them for the day…to consume umbrella drinks, smoke cigars…and get your tan on.  What would be your answer to them as your Wife turns her focus directly at YOU?  It better be an immediate, “Hang out with you fellas?  Don’t you see that I’ve got this gorgeous Lady here?  She’s the LOVE of my Life.  She’s BRILLIANT…and an incredible Mother to my children.  This beautiful Woman chose to be with me to SHARE our vacation TOGETHER?  Sorry guys…the answer will always be NEVER!!!”  To every guy out there…you know what your answer should always be…right?


So what if you are a steadfast BELIEVER in the Mighty God of Heaven…and a heartfelt FOLLOWER of the King of Glory, Jesus…what if you’re Mom wasn’t standing behind you as you stared at the cookie jar?  Would you stomp on the gas if the Police Officer wasn’t beside you at that red light?  And if you were alone at that table…and those fellas asked you to join them out to the pool…what would you do?  You’re all alone…no one has to know.  Are you alone?  NEVER!!!  Jesus is ALWAYS standing beside you wherever you go.


So ask yourself…”What would Jesus do?”  You’ll hear Him reply, “Uhhh…not that!!!”

I never seek attention and Tommy Overstreet said years ago I had a “Whole lot of quit in me!” I will not enumerate how many songs, books, articles or movies I’ve written but I will say that I’ve given away more than I’ve published. Newbies are always talking about “dues” they’ve paid when they first start out. Dues are what you realize when it’s all over and done and the Devil comes knocking.   Alcoholism becomes a viable option and beats working. Fancy words like “depression” don’t work because if you’re a writer you quickly realize that depression gives you the best material because nobody wants to hear about sunny days, they just want to make it through the night.   So, you drink yourself into a pit, and somewhere in that pit is a hit, if you’re lucky.   How’d you like a little death to add life to your party? There’s a new kid on the block. Fentanyl.  Back in the day James Brown lamented “King Heroin.” Fentanyl is the new Kool Aid. Jim Jones Kool Aid! Why in the world would anyone wanna invent something like that is beyond me. Hitler could have saved all that money on Zyklon B if He’d had fentanyl! A little dab’ll do ya? Try 1/500 th of a dab!   Now I know you kids out there are thinking I’m just an old “Fuddy Duddy,” but let me educate you. I’ve been in entertainment since 1969. Do the math. From Austin to Nashville, and I have been there, done that. In addition to that I was crushed between two cars in 1970 and had a legal, non-stop source of pain medication for years.
